British Hillwalkers Leaders Certificate
Why is the only worried-looking one the Course Director?
They all passed!
Here, late on the first night, routes are being planned for tomorrow and documented.
Day dawns again, and the planned routes have to be led with the Assessor's eyes on you!
Once over the mountain, down through the cloud and out of the wind, the mood relaxes.
After dark we had a night navigation exercise to do. Then we were told to set up a bivouac for the night.
Our Instructors, Ron and Neil, wished us good night and went off back to the luxury of Dalegarth and a warm bed.
"Nothing to it really!"
"Now I usually go jogging before breakfast."
Finally we had to search for a casualty and then bring them back using a torn Bivi Bag as a stretcher.
It was not too bad carrying 50kg Rosemarie on level dry ground, but then we changed to carrying 90kg Alan across a knee-deep fast-flowing stream with a base of slimy rounded boulders!
Twice the only reason I did not get a ducking was that the "casualty" was clinging on to me so firmly!

Finally back to Dalegarth: a well-equipped place with every luxury a Ramblers Leader could wish for.
And, after the bath, dinner!
